Hi @JJsuperman

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To set up and use your printer via USB connection without needing an internet connection, you'll just need to make sure the printer is connected directly to your laptop or PC via USB, and that the necessary printer drivers are installed locally on your computer.

Here are the steps to set up your printer without connecting it to the internet:

Step 1: Connect Your Printer to the PC via USB

  • Plug in your printer’s USB cable into the USB port on your laptop or desktop. Make sure your printer is powered on.
  • Do not connect to Wi-Fi during this setup. You can skip any prompts that ask for Wi-Fi setup or internet connection.

Step 2: Install Printer Drivers Locally

Windows automatically installs drivers: In many cases, Windows should automatically detect your printer once it's plugged in via USB and install the required drivers. You'll see a notification in the taskbar saying "Installing device" or similar. Wait for the installation to complete. After installation, you should be able to see your printer listed in Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.

If Windows doesn't automatically install the drivers, follow these steps:

  1. Check the printer's installation CD (if you have one) and insert it into your computer. Run the setup file to install the drivers. This will work even if you don’t have an internet connection.
  2. Download drivers manually (using another computer or via mobile device):
    • On another device (such as your smartphone or a friend’s laptop), go to the printer manufacturer’s website and search for the driver specific to your printer model and your computer's operating system.
    • Download the driver package to a USB flash drive.
    • Transfer the driver to your university computer (where you want to use the printer) by plugging in the USB flash drive.
    • Run the driver installer from the USB flash drive to install the necessary printer drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

If you subscribe to instant ink you will need to cancel that and use regular retail cartridges as the Instant ink ones will cease to function when your contract is cancelled.

If you signed up for HP+ at time of original setup then you have another issue, as accepting those terms means that you agreed to have the unit attached to the internet at all times for monitoring.
