Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I updated the driver version the latest Hp universal driver this week (v7.9.0 - 61.345.1.26347). And apparently we have a lot of users that can't print from Snipping tool anymore. Snag it works, adding the file to a word document and printing works, but not directly from the Snipping tool?
reverting it to the older driver we had (7.4 and 7.8) solved it as a workaround.
But does any one else experience this issue?

Edit: Apparently some/all printer also prints a blank extra page, is this really a driver issue? In that case it's extremely bad.

Hi @PrintyVonPrint

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels when printing suddenly breaks after updating to a new driver, especially when it works fine from other applications but not directly from Snipping Tool. You’ve already done the right thing by testing with SnagIt and Word, and even rolling back to earlier driver versions to confirm the difference. That careful troubleshooting helps narrow down the cause.

What’s happening

  • The HP Universal Print Driver (UPD) v7.9.0 introduces changes in how print jobs are processed.
  • Applications like Snipping Tool send jobs differently than Word or SnagIt, which is why you see failures in one but not the others.
  • The extra blank page is typically a symptom of mismatched page size or job formatting between the application and the driver.

Steps you can try

Adjust Snipping Tool print settings

  • After capturing a snip, go to File > Print.
  • In the print dialog, check that the paper size matches your printer’s default (Letter or A4).
  • Disable “Fit to Page” if enabled, as this can trigger blank pages.

Modify printer preferences in Windows

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  • Right‑click your printer > Printing Preferences.
  • Under Advanced, set “Paper Size” to match your default tray.
  • Apply changes and retry printing from Snipping Tool.

Test with HP App print workflow

  • Save the snip as a file (PNG or JPG).
  • Open the HP App on Windows 11.
  • Select Print Documents/Photos and print the saved snip.
  • This bypasses the Snipping Tool’s direct print path and ensures the driver handles the job correctly.

Update firmware and driver package

  • Visit the official HP driver page for the Universal Print Driver:
HP Universal Print Driver for Windows
  • Download the latest package or re‑install v7.9.0 cleanly to ensure no corruption.
  • If issues persist, continue using v7.8 until a newer release is available.

Why this helps

  • Aligning paper size and preferences prevents the blank extra page.
  • Using the HP App ensures consistent communication with the printer.
  • Re‑installing or rolling back the driver stabilizes printing until updates resolve compatibility.

With these adjustments, printing from Snipping Tool should feel smooth again without the frustration of blank pages. Would you like me to also share how to create a custom print shortcut in Windows, so Snipping Tool jobs always use the correct paper size and avoid the extra page?
