MFP m181fw admin password forgotten

HP Color LaserJet MFP M181fw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi!

I found the same issue posted a few times already, but the answer is always in private message, so I had no choice but to ask it again:

I have the printer named above, and now there's a firmware update ready to install. When I tried to install it from my pc (win10 / 64 bit), it was asking for an admin password. I tried "admin" and the password I thought I set, but no luck. Now I have only one try left and no idea what happens if I try it incorrectly again. So I guess I have two questions regarding this problem:

1. What happens after trying an incorrect password 3 consecutive times?

2. How do I change the admin password if I don't remember it?

Thanks.

Hi @minekezide,

I'd like to help!

We can perform a factory defaults on the printer to resolve the issue

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
