Whenever my printer goes into sleep mode it makes a constant dull beeping sound that is driving me crazy. How do I stop this? My firmware is up to date, I powered it on and off and tried silent mode. It's maddening and there's no way to contact HP. The printer is only a week old.
Help please. I'm running MACos Sequoia 15.5

Hi @tired18,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Check for Firmware Updates
Even if you mentioned that your firmware is up to date, sometimes rechecking for new updates might help. Make sure the firmware version is the latest available:
- Go to the HP Support Site.
- Enter your printer model and check for any firmware updates.
Disable Sleep Mode
- Access the printer’s control panel.
- Go to Settings.
- Find and select Sleep Mode.
- Set the Sleep Mode to the longest duration available or disable it if possible.
Check Wireless Settings
- Sometimes wireless interference can cause the beeping noise. Try moving your printer to a different location away from other wireless devices.
- Ensure the printer is connected properly to your network.
Restart the Printer
This simple step can sometimes resolve minor issues:
- Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Reset the Printer
Performing a reset might resolve the issue:
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and the printer.
Check for Mechanical Issues
- Inspect if there are any buttons or connections that are loose or damaged.
- Make sure the printer is placed on a flat and stable surface.
I hope this helps.

HI Kuroi_Kenshi,
I tried all of these steps again and it still makes the non stop noise. It's maddening.
My last printer lasted for 12 years and never made a sound unless I was printing, coping or scanning.
Thanks for trying.

Hi @tired18,
Thank you for the response.
Try these steps:
1. Factory Reset the Printer
Sometimes a full factory reset can clear out any firmware or internal glitches causing odd behavior like unexplained beeping.
On the printer touchscreen, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
After the reset, reconnect it to your Wi-Fi and check if the noise continues.
2. Try Using a Different Power Outlet (No Extension Cord)
Sometimes power-related anomalies can cause unusual electronic behavior.
Plug the printer directly into a different wall socket (avoid power strips or surge protectors for this test).
Observe if the noise continues in sleep mode.
3. Use the HP Smart App to Adjust Quiet/Sleep Settings
Although you mentioned silent mode is on, using the HP Smart App might give you deeper control.
Download or open HP Smart on your Mac.
Tap on your printer > Go to Advanced Settings > Navigate to Preferences or Power Management.
Try adjusting sleep mode or eco settings from here and toggle Quiet Mode off and on again to reset it.
4. Try Disconnecting From Wi-Fi
Some users have reported that strange standby behavior stops when the printer is taken offline:
Go to Settings > Network Settings on the printer.
Temporarily disable Wi-Fi and wait a few minutes in standby mode.
If the noise disappears, we may be looking at a network-related issue or interference.
I hope this helps.
