I've been trying to install my new HP Laserjet M209dwe printer on my computer for 2 days. After the entire installation, I try to print a test page, HP Smart comes out, I choose the printer and when I give it in the print app, the printing is canceled. How can I remove the HP Smart and go back to basics, using USB for installation? Help!!!!!

I am also a new owner of this printer. I know little about it or about Windows. However, if you don't want to use HP Smart, you can probably remove it from the applications folder or deinstall it. Then you will have the problem of connecting your printer to the computer or device by some other means.

Thank you for your response to my problem. The situation is that I delete the HP Smart program and when I try to print something it tells me that I have to reinstall it. I cannot use or print on the printer if the without the program. Then I install HP Smart, I identify the printer, I give the program button to print and the program cancels the printing.

Where are those plug and play printers from before?

I'm about to dump the printer !!!!!!

I was able to print from my iPhone and my wife's iPhone, but not from my iMacPro! After several hours fumbling around yesterday, I decided to follow these instructions systematically:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06985417

Actually I followed them somewhat loosely. I removed the printer from the HPSmart app where I had previously registered. I found similar instructions on YouTube for connecting to my wireless network.  I then proceeded with the instructions up to and including the part where it restores the default status of the printer. I could see that I was still connected, so I removed the printer from my system preferences ---> Printers and then added it. Then I added the printer back into the HPSmart app. Now I am able to print from both my iMac and my iPhone.

It works, but I would also prefer not to use HPSmart. Unfortunately, my experience is that I can't print without the HPSmart application. The app claims to be required for use of my printer (HP 209dw), but I suspect they are only saying that in order to induce people to sign up for their HP+ toner subscription program. Their presentations of HP+ at each point in the setup are misleading, implying that you have no other choice. One has to be careful to refuse them at nearly every step. I find their coercive advertising approach quite obnoxious. Other companies seeking more stable revenues and larger profits are doing the same thing, including one famous English company that produces mathematics software. So I wish you luck with your project.
