hp deskjet 2131
macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi,

I have recently brought the hp deskket 2131, I followed all the steps to setting it up, the cartridges have been inserted correctly, the papers in the right spot i honestly dont know why it isnt working. I downloaded everything for the setup. The printer had connected through the first part of the setup but once I tried to connect it through the app it just wouldnt connect and wouldnt even show up at all (by the way i am connecting through a usb cable). I tried to print through the print and scanner options in mac settings but it would say it was printing but nothing would happen. All that the printer has actually printed is the quality check 😕

@Bear27, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand you are not able to print from the Mac. To assist you better,

  • Have you tried printing different types of documents like PDF, Word, or Webpages and check if the issue persists?
  • Try making a standalone copy from the flatbed glass and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Make sure the cable is directly connected between the Mac and the printer.

The use of a USB hub is not recommended. Also, make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac.

Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the Mac? If yes, disable the same for time being.

To check, select the Go menu on the top of the screen and go to the Applications folder.

  • Check if the printer is getting recognized by your Mac:
  1. From the Apple menu, choose About This Mac.
  2. Click System Report.
  3. Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB.

USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
