Hi @ElaineC8

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re facing an issue where your new printer is not printing from either your Android device or laptop. Let's go through a few steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

1. Check Printer Connections

First, make sure the printer is properly connected to your devices:

For Wireless Printers:

  • Wi-Fi Connection: Ensure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Android device and laptop.
    • For Wi-Fi printers, check the printer’s display screen and ensure it is connected to the correct network.
    • You can also print a network configuration page (usually through the printer’s menu) to verify the network connection.

For USB Printers:

  • Ensure that the USB cable is securely plugged into both the printer and your laptop.
  • If using USB, make sure that the correct printer drivers are installed on your laptop.

2. Check Printer Status and Paper

  • Check for any paper jams or issues in the printer. Ensure that there is enough paper in the tray and the printer is ready to print.
  • Check ink or toner levels (if applicable) to ensure the printer is not out of ink or toner.

3. Restart the Printer

  • Power off the printer, wait for 30 seconds, and then turn it back on. This can help reset any temporary connection issues.
  • After restarting, wait for the printer to be fully ready and check the printer's display for any error messages.

4. Check the Printer on Your Devices

On Your Laptop (Windows):

  1. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Make sure your printer is listed under Printers & Scanners.
  3. If the printer is not listed, click Add a Printer and follow the instructions to add the printer.
  4. Right-click the printer and choose Set as Default Printer if needed.
  5. Try printing a test page by right-clicking the printer and selecting Printer Properties > Print Test Page.

On Your Android Device:

  1. Install the HP Smart app from the Google Play Store if it’s not already installed.
  2. Open the HP Smart app and ensure it can detect your printer. You may need to go through the setup process if it hasn’t been set up yet.
  3. Try printing a document from the HP Smart app or from another app like Google Docs or Photos.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
