Officejet 5200
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Hi.
I bought an Officejet 5200 series for my Imac a bit over a year ago. Its worked fine until i think there was a software/Driver update and it stopped working. B+W would work but Colour would not. From what i can understand after much perusing. This update had made my printer incompatible with my OS 10.11.6 (El Capitan) and the software has been telling me to update my OS. This is NOT an option for me as i have several thousand dollars of older software which works perfectly for my needs now which would become INCOMPATIBLE were i  to upgrade my OS. From other support forums I've read, an HP employees has stated older versions of the HP Smart software are not available?!   However, this seems to be the only solution for me, I'm fairly sure Hewlett Packard cannot and does not want to FORCE my almost new Printer into premature obsolescence? if someone could please direct to me to a solution to this, it would be MUCH appreciated!
Thank You!
