Microsoft Windows Server 2019

I'm managing a print server for another organisation, as such I can't be onsite. We've added a HP Color Laserjet Pro MFP M282nw to the network, I've deployed the queue using HP Universal Printing Driver pcl 6. It's a colour printer but it's only printing in black and white, and I can't find any options to change that. Can someone suggest what I might be missing here?

Hi @Stephen_N,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M282nw networked color printer is only printing in monochrome, there are a few possible causes for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem.

  • Check printer settings: Ensure that the printer settings are configured correctly for color printing. Open the printer properties or preferences on your computer and make sure the color option is selected. Also, check that the grayscale or black-and-white option is not enabled.
  • Verify toner cartridges: Ensure that the color toner cartridges are installed correctly and have sufficient toner. Open the printer's front cover and check the toner levels. If any of the color toner cartridges are empty or low, replace them with new ones.
  • Clean the printer: Dust or debris on the printer's internal components can affect print quality. Clean the printer's paper path, toner cartridges, and any accessible rollers using a lint-free cloth or compressed air.
  • Update printer drivers: Outdated or incompatible printer drivers can cause printing issues. Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your specific printer model. Install the updated drivers on your computer and try printing again.
  • Restart printer and computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a minute. Then, restart both the printer and your computer and try printing in color again.
  • Network connection: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to the network. Check the network cables, and if you are using a wireless connection, ensure that the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network. You may need to reconfigure the network settings on the printer if necessary.
  • Test with another device: Try printing a color document from a different device, such as a smartphone or another computer. This can help determine if the issue is specific to your computer or if it's a printer-related problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
