@Michael_NW, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're encountering an issue where your HP Smart Tank 7305 All-in-One printer is showing the black ink as empty right after the initial setup, and the installation halts—especially after restarting or powering off the printer. Let's walk through the steps to resolve this:
Check Ink Tank Levels Manually
Even if the panel shows the ink as empty, visually inspect the black ink tank:
- Ensure the tank is filled up to the maximum fill line.
- If it's low or empty, refill it using the original HP black ink bottle.
Reset the Ink Sensor
Sometimes the ink level sensor may not register correctly:
- Power off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall and printer.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and power on the printer.
- Check if the ink level updates correctly.
Run HP Smart App Setup Again
If the setup was interrupted, re-running it can help:
- Download or open the HP Smart App.
- Ensure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your PC.
- Follow the guided setup to complete installation and ink initialization.
Firmware Update (if applicable)
Outdated firmware may cause ink detection issues:
- Go to HP support page and enter your printer model.
- Download and install the latest firmware.
Additional Tips
- Ensure you're using genuine HP ink bottles.
- Avoid powering off the printer during the initial ink charging process.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your answer.
Finally, I checked everything mentioned above, but the error remained the same.
Finally, I think there was a defective level sensor at the black tank.
After discussion with HP support the printer was replaced with a new one, with the new printer the entire installation went without any problems.
