Set up  a new HP Color LaserJet MFP M283fdn and it is displaying Cartridge incompatibility right at the beginning and it could not print any test page.

The printer came with ink cartridge installed. Checked the similar Printer and it had Printer Cartridge Order 206A.

Through web browser it was displaying Print Cartridge Order 207A. Very strange.

Hi @Kiran68,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Color LaserJet MFP M283fdn is displaying a "Cartridge incompatibility" error message, it means that the printer is having trouble recognizing one or more of the toner cartridges installed in the printer. This can happen for various reasons, and there are several steps you can take to resolve the issue.

  • Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the toner cartridges you are using are compatible with your specific printer model. HP printers often require genuine HP cartridges for proper functioning. Using third-party or refilled cartridges can sometimes lead to compatibility issues.
  • Reinstall the Cartridges: Turn off the printer and open the front cover. Carefully remove and then reinstall each of the toner cartridges one at a time. Make sure they are securely seated in their respective slots.
  • Clean the Cartridge Contacts: Sometimes, dust or debris can accumulate on the cartridge contacts or in the printer's contact area. Gently wipe the electrical contacts on the toner cartridges and inside the printer with a clean, lint-free cloth.
  • Check for Protective Tape: Ensure that any protective tape or seals that were on the new cartridges have been completely removed. Leaving these tapes or seals in place can prevent proper cartridge recognition.
  • Update Firmware: Outdated firmware can sometimes cause cartridge compatibility issues. Visit the HP website and check if there's a firmware update available for your printer model. If so, download and install it according to the provided instructions.
  • Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear temporary errors.
  • Try Different Cartridges: If you have multiple cartridges on hand, try swapping out the problematic cartridge with a different one to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with the cartridge itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
