HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I deleted the printer; checked to see that it was indeed deleted; restarted laptop; reinstalled printer, cleaned the print cartridges; test page prints in color; copy prints in color; photo sent to printer had no option to print in color/gray scale/etc. and did not print in color.  HELP!!!  My printer is HP Envy 4520. Running Windows 11.

Driver issue, in most cases this is caused by a Microsoft IPP driver replacing the HP driver. Go to control panel, devices and printers and then right click on the icon for your printer and select printer properties from the drop down menu. Click the advanced tab and you will see the driver that is installed. If is says either IPP driver or Class driver it is not an HP driver and often will not provide color or other advanced features. Download the correct driver and reinstall. If it does show an HP driver, your next step is to click on the device settings tab and scroll down till you see the option "device mode" and change to color from auto-detect or monochrome.

The hp driver appears to be installed, but the device setting don't have the device mode option that you refer to.  There is an automatic config drop down and the default is "OFF".   The 'update now' reverts to 'off' and I have not found a way to get around it.  Thanks for your help, but i am still in need of help.
