Hi @Jojolulu,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To connect your HP Envy 6452e printer to your Samsung Galaxy S20 FE without internet, you'll need a USB OTG (On-The-Go) adapter along with a USB Type-B to USB Type-A cable. Here's what you'll need.

  • USB Type-B to USB Type-A cable: The HP Envy 6452e has a USB Type-B port (common for printers). You may already have this cable if your printer came with one.
  • USB OTG adapter: Your Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has a USB Type-C port, so you'll need an OTG adapter that converts the USB Type-A end of the printer cable to fit your phone’s USB-C port.

Steps:

  1. Plug the USB Type-B end of the cable into the printer.
  2. Connect the USB Type-A end to the OTG adapter.
  3. Plug the OTG adapter into your phone's USB Type-C port.
  4. Your phone should detect the printer, allowing you to print directly.

Make sure your phone supports OTG connections (it generally does) and install the HP Smart app if it's not already installed for printing control.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks,  but the OTG adapter will not allow me to switch the host from the printer to the phone.  It only allows the printer to charge the phone

Hi @Jojolulu,

Thank you for your response,

If the OTG adapter is only allowing the printer to charge your phone, here are a few troubleshooting steps to try.

Check OTG Compatibility: Ensure that your OTG adapter is functioning correctly and is compatible with your Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. You can test the adapter with another USB device to see if it allows data transfer.

Test the Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that the printer is turned on and properly connected to the USB Type-B cable.
  • Double-check that the USB Type-A end of the cable is securely connected to the OTG adapter.

Try a Different OTG Adapter: If possible, test with a different OTG adapter to rule out a faulty adapter.

Phone Settings:

  • Make sure that the OTG function is enabled on your phone. You can typically find this in the Settings under Connections > USB settings or USB preferences.
  • Restart your phone after making changes to ensure they take effect.

Printer Settings: Check if there are any settings on the printer that need to be adjusted for USB connections. Some printers have settings that affect how they communicate with connected devices.

Install Drivers/Apps: If you haven’t already, ensure the HP Smart app is installed on your phone. Sometimes, specific drivers or apps are needed to facilitate the connection.

Firmware Update: Check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer that may resolve connectivity issues.

Testing with Other Devices: If you have access to another device that supports OTG, try connecting the printer to that device to see if it recognizes the printer.

If you've tried all these steps and still can't switch the host from the printer to the phone, it may be a limitation of the adapter or the way the devices interact. In that case, you might want to consider alternative connection methods, such as using a wireless connection if that becomes available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
