HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Format All-in-One Printer

I have no response when trying to turn on the printer. I replaced the power supply and there is no change in the situation.  The light in the print compartment is on, but there is no response to opening the print cartridge door.

Hi @esam1152

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is experiencing a power issue, even though the print compartment light is on. Since you've already replaced the power supply, let's go through some HP-based troubleshooting steps that might help:

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Unplug the printer from the power source.
  2. Wait for at least 5 minutes to allow residual power to drain.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds while unplugged.
  4. Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips or surge protectors).
  5. Turn it on and check if the control panel responds.

Step 2: Check Power Connection

  • Inspect the power cable: Ensure it's securely connected to both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Try a different power outlet: Plug another device into the same outlet to confirm it's working.
  • Test with another compatible power cord (if available).

Step 3: Check for Display Issues

  • If the Wi-Fi light is on but the control panel is unresponsive, the display itself might be malfunctioning.
  • Try printing from another device (via Wi-Fi) to see if the printer responds.

Step 4: Reset Printer Firmware

  • Disconnect the printer from Wi-Fi by holding the Wireless button until it turns off.
  • Reconnect the printer to your network using WPS method or via the HP Smart App.
  • Check for any available firmware updates via the HP Smart App or HP Support.

Step 5: Inspect for Electrical or Hardware Issues

  • Overheating or Power Surges: If the printer recently experienced a power surge, it may have affected the internal power board.
  • Check for faint lights or sounds: Plug in the printer and listen for any faint clicking sounds when pressing the power button.

Try these steps and let me know if the issue persists! We’ll get this sorted.
