Officejet 7740 - new printhead - old full cartridges

Hi 

I have an Officejet 7740 which was not used for 9 months (Office closed) so the printhead has driedup.

I have purchased a new Printhead. 

I have the cartridges from the old Printhead which are fine and 3 out of 4 are more than half full.

I put the old cartridges in to the new printhead and fitted it in to the printer and I am getting a message "New, unused cartridges must be used for startup" 

I don't want to waste these cartridges (HP ink is the one most expensive liquid on the Planet!!!).

Can anyone help me with this issue?

Hi,

You must initialize a new print-head wit a full set of new and unused cartridges, after installing new ink cartridges to initialize the print-head, you may use your existing ink cartridges in a later time, not for its first initialization.

Hi Shlomil 

thanks for the reply. I was hoping there was another way of doing this as i did not want to insert new cartridges as it would break the seal. i don't print so much that i will need new cartridges for 6-8 months

any other ideas?

No, you must use New and Unused cartridges, there is no way to bypass it and initialize a printhead with used ink cartridges, new ones must be used for such..
