Officejet 9012 hung up trying to print alignment page - instant ink will not allow ink for printer page (my subscription is up to date with Instant Ink). Officejet 9012 will not allow access through panel to connect to internet due to hung up on Instant Ink message "Cartridge cannot be used until printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink". Not being able to get to internet settings on Panel of Officejet 9012, I cannot validate enrollment with Instant Ink. I am using Windows 11. I have used Scan Doctor. I have tried using a printer cable to USB port on my Linksys and have tried running it directly to my PC. I have read more discussions than I care to ever again. Crying shame that HP makes a great product, offer excellent services (instant ink, Instant Paper, Usually good Instructions) but fail to realize that sometimes you need to go to next step instead of focusing on 1 issue. My question is, how do I get my Printer to allow internet setup and bypass instant ink without spending more money?

Hi @bri1967,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating situation with your HP OfficeJet 9012 printer and the Instant Ink enrollment issue. Here are some steps you can try to bypass the Instant Ink setup and regain access to the printer's settings:
1. Reset the Printer
- Performing a hard reset might help clear any temporary glitches:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
2. Access the Printer Settings via HP Smart App
- If you can’t access the settings through the printer’s control panel, try using the HP Smart app:
- Download and install the HP Smart app on your computer or smartphone.
- Open the app and try to connect to your printer through the app to access settings and manage Instant Ink enrollment.
3. Direct Connection for Setup
- Try connecting the printer directly to your router with an Ethernet cable (if possible) to bypass any wireless setup:
- Connect the Ethernet cable from the printer to your router.
- Power on the printer and wait for it to connect to the network.
- Try accessing the printer's control panel to see if you can now get to the internet settings.
4. Use the Printer’s Web Interface
- If the printer is connected to your network:
- Open a web browser on your computer.
- Type the printer's IP address into the address bar (you can usually find this in the printer settings or by printing a network configuration page).
- This should bring up the printer's web interface, where you can access various settings, including network settings
5. Check for Firmware Updates
- Sometimes firmware updates can resolve connectivity issues:
- Use the HP Smart app or the printer's web interface to check for and install any available firmware updates.
6. Factory Reset
- As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on the printer, which will erase all settings:
- Go to the printer's setup menu.
- Look for an option like Restore Factory Defaults.
- Follow the prompts to reset the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
