Officejet Pro 7740 scanning setup through web interface?

I recently purchased an OfficeJet Pro 7740 and while setting it up I found that the Scan tab only displays the following message:

"You cannot use this function because it has been disabled. For more information, contact the person who set up the printer."

There are no other scan settings in any of the other tabs.....is it not possible to setup the scan function from the web interface?

There are two options that are perhaps relevant to your question.

• WebScan
• Scan to Computer

Printer - Webscan

Webscan – located in the Embedded Web Server (EWS) – No additional software

This option requires a network connection and EWS

EWS > HP Document / How-to

Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)

NOTE: Webscan feature is not available on Laser printers

If the printer is on the network,

If the EWS feature is available on your printer,

First Time Use Only: Enable Webscan

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Settings > Security > Administrator Settings > Enable >> Check box next to Webscan

Click Apply to save any changes

Use Webscan

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Tab Scan > Webscan 

Set up Webscan the way you want it - for example, set the Source to ADF

Click Start Scan to scan your document / image using Webscan

After the scan is complete, Save the scan to your computer.

 Remove / Install the full driver printer software

If not done by this point...

Restart everything, including the router that controls you network.

Can't stand it?  At least restart the printer and the computer and any device you can stand to be without for a short time.

Next,

Run Windows Updates  --  If any updates are installed, Restart the computer and log in.

Next,

Printer - Full Feature Software - Install

If you have not done so, consider

• HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts.  The full driver adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop:  Printer Assistant and HP Scan.  If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver.  No Sign-in required.

If the full driver printer software is (already) installed but not working,

• Uninstall any printer software from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features
• Restart the computer and sign in.

What if?

NOTE: If software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and is “still hanging around” after you uninstall / Restart...

Microsoft: Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

OR

Revo Uninstaller (Free version)

then

Restart the computer and sign in

Next,

• Check (for the Printer) in Devices and Printers  > If found, Right-Click Printer and Remove -- If any changes are made, that is, you remove anything, Restart the computer and sign in.

Next,

• If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, disconnect the cable before installing the printer software.

• Download and Save the Full Feature Software installation package or the Easy Start Software

Installation

• Open File Explorer
• Navigate to the folder in which you saved the installation file  (likely Downloads)
• Right-Click on the installation package and “Run as Administrator”
• If using a printer USB cable between the printer and the computer, connect the cable when instructed (near the end of the installation).
• After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

The installation of the full driver adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop:

>>> Open the Printer Assistant > tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

And thanks for the quick reply but I see now that I should have provided some more details around our particular setup. I was looking for a way to connect the printer to a network share such that people can walk up to it with a document, click scan to computer on the LCD and have it drop the PDF in the network share where the user can grab it when they return to their computer. In other printers I've worked with, this is an option and is setup from the web interface but I'm not seeing that here. Often times I also see options to setup 1-click scan destinations through the web interface - this would allow me to pre-populate the printer with all the relevant email addresses so people don't have to manually type them in at the LCD.

True - this printer does not support some of the nicer elements, including Scan to Email (SMTP / Profile) and Scan to Network.

Windows Server 2019 is supported with basic printer software (only).

That does not change the type of services supported; it does change the way the driver responds to local print / scan requests.
