Migrated HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One printer bought in 2012 from MacOS 10.13 High Sierra to MacOS 15.5 Sequoia. Device Manager and Photosmart Studio require updates. Found a Driver in HP Tech Support. Started download, but all I got for over an hour was the spinning wheel.
Is this right, normal? Is there a way I can check progress to make sure download is happening? Did I miss a step? Should I be taking another approach? It prints, I haven't tried Fax or Scan yet, will the Driver affect either of these functions? Is there a Tech Support person I can speak to about this?

@DONMAT, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
It sounds like you’re dealing with some hiccups during the driver update process, and I can understand the frustration.
The spinning wheel typically means that the download or installation is still in progress. However, it should not last for over an hour. Try the following steps:
Restart the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Wait for 60 seconds and connect the power cord back in.
- Turn on the printer.
Run HP Smart:
- Download and run the HP Smart. Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix common printing issues.
- Refer: Use Diagnose & Fix in HP Smart to repair common printing issues (Windows, macOS) | HP® Support
Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
Let me know how it goes.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
