I've been trying to work out a way of printing a larger document on my HP P1102w that connected to my windows 11 Laptop via USB cable.
I used to use an OKI printer to print documents at a larger size (500mm+ long) and recently changed to the above HP laserJet hoping to do the same. I've tried to install the regular driver for the P1102w and the "custom" size only allows me 216mm x 356mm to play with. So you would assume the printer only supports sizes up to 216mm x 356mm, However the company that rents the printer to me, can use it with their own software to print full pages of up to 540mm long. My Issue with using their supplied software is that it is somewhat cumbersome and awkward to use, so I'm looking for a way to print directly from Adobe Illustrator to the P1102w and using the fully potential of what the printer can do.
I've attempted to install a few other HP Universal drivers, these allow me to choose my own custom sizes but when it comes to printing it just fails and says the printer is in an "error state" so I'm assuming the P1102w doesn't support these drivers, or I haven't installed them correctly.
Ideally I'm looking for some advise from a HP printer expert that can tell me how to get round these issues and get me back on track with printing my work again. I hope you're out there 😉
Thanks in advance
Kindest regards
Steven

Hi @Nevets237,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:
Are there any blinking lights on the device and do you have any error codes?
Have you attempted to upgrade the printer firmware to resolve the issue?
While you respond to that, here's what you need to do:
Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.
Perform a Hard reset on the printer.
* With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
* Remove USB cable, if present.
* Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
* Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
* Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
* Now try to print a test page and check if it works.
Using this article and troubleshooting accordingly, you may also identify what the error and the blinking lights (if any) represent.
If the issue persists, Click here to download and upgrade the firmware of the printer, if you haven't done it yet.
I would also recommend you to download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor. T
his tool can diagnose and fix many printing and printer software-related issues.
Please use this link to help you with that information: Click here for instructions
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

Hi Elohi_NR and thanks very much for you reply to my query, I really appreciate your help and advise.
Are there any blinking lights on the device and do you have any error codes?
Yes, after I installed HP Universal drivers (for Windows PostScript (64-bit)) the computer sends the file to the printer however nothing prints (there is a message that shows the first time trying to print with the new driver "The device 'HP LaserJet Professional P1102w UPD PS' may not be able to print this document. Communication with the device could not be established to verify this as a supported device. Would you like to use this device anyway?" I press yes and the printer appears to be validated) and the amber attention light and green ready light both flash (4 times) and then the blue (wireless) light flashes fast and then goes off.
Have you attempted to upgrade the printer firmware to resolve the issue?
No, no yet and I will DM you for the reasons for this currently... hopefully you can advise me on that if it is necessary to update the firmware.
I have since, also tried to print put plugging the printer power cable directly to the wall ( I was on an extension lead before ) however it has made no difference.
I have attempted to follow your link to the updated firmware, however it doesn't appear to be working right now.
Thanks again for your help and hopefully you can assist me further
Kindest regards
