HP ENVY 5660 printer.
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I’m trying to print an 8x10 photo on Inkjet gloss photo paper using a HP ENVY 5660 printer. When I print the photo on regular inkjet paper the photo is centered OK. When I try and print on the photo paper the top of the photo is cut off and there is about a 2-inch margin at the bottom of the paper. The best I’ve done is to copy the photo to a SD card and print from it but still get a ½ inch margin at the bottom of the page.

What if the photo will not center?

The glossy paper might be be loading into the printer incorrectly - that is, the paper might be slipping and not grabbing as it goes into the printer to start the job.

Dirt inside the printer and / or on the rollers can cause this as can "just normal wear and tear" (printer parts are worn out).

Cleaning and such:

'Out of Paper' Displays and Printer Does Not Pick Paper

If the issue is not the paper or rollers - that is, everything seems OK with the paper-loading and the hardware, then the manner in which the job is submitted can impact the results.

Original Content

Different printing software responds differently to how an image is printed on a given size of paper.

If the paper is not the same size and shape of the paper, the margins might end up other than expected.  In some cases, the image may appear chopped or moved.

If supported for your printer and Operating System,

HP Smart for Windows can be used to print on your selected paper and selected photo size.

(Photo Size must be in the "Photo Size" drop-down menu.)

When Borderless printing is not supported, set this option to OFF

Select "Crop" or "Fit" (try each in preview) to get the "best view" of your photo.

Set other settings, including those in More Settings (select your shortcut, media - kind of paper, etc)

One way to help manage how the image is placed on the paper is to use Paint and Center the image both horizontal and vertical.

Open the image in Paint (mspaint)

In Page Setup, adjust the margins to the minimum allowed by the printer, set the paper size, and "center" the object on the paper.

You can also print nice photos using Irfanview software and center the image on the paper.

Software is more powerful than simple view and print software - it can handle the simple tasks, too.

How to find Help within the Irfanview software

Once installed, open the software > tab Help

Example help entry:

Vertical/Horizontal Flip

  • Click on the Image Menu, then Vertical Flip. The image will turn upside-down. The left/right orientation will stay the same.
  • Click on the Image Menu, then Horizontal Flip. The image will turn side-to-side, as in a mirror.

Note: The effect can be used on a smaller portion (rectangle selection) of an image, as well as the entire image.
