Hello: I've downloaded what I thought was the proper driver;
According to my computer, the installation was successful (a few different times) but...
Nowhere can I find the HP Printer listed as an option under the "preferences" tabs for choosing a printer. What gives? What am I doing wrong here?
THANK YOU

@rocknrollchef, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
To provide you with the right information, What is the exact model of the printer you use?
To know how to find the product number or the model, refer to this document.
HP Photosmart 7900 series printers do not have drivers available on the HP Support site.
We can either try installing the driver available from Apple software update or use Gluten print drivers.
Keep me posted for further assistance.

As the printer driver is not available in the HP Support site, let us install the driver available via Apple software update.
1.) Use the steps available here to update the software on Mac.
2.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
3.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
4.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
5.) Click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
6.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
7.) Try to print.
Let me know how this goes.

Hey there: I know all the steps to install a driver (I've tried several times with your HP drivers), but none of them work with my El Capitan OS. QUESTION: You mentioned a different site (Gutenberg or something?).
Knowing how updating Apple OS usually means my older software will no longer work, I'd prefer not doing that if possible.
thanks & let me know!

Gluten drivers are used/supported only if the drivers are not available via Apple software update. Your printer can be installed via Apple software update. If you do not wish to update the software on your MAC, you can skip updating and try installing the driver as mentioned in the above post. IF that does not work, updating the macOS and then installing the drivers is the only option.
Keep me posted.

Yeah - looks like the more recent Mac OS software (Mojave) doesn't work well with older software, including Adobe CS6. As I'm not interested in moving to the subscription-based CC fee structure, looks like I'm pretty well screwed on just having bought this outdated HP Photosmart printer. NOT HAPPY!!!!
