Recently my Photosmart D110 has started printing excessively slow from my Mac mini. Drivers are as up-to-date as they can be. PDFs are the worst just excruciatingly slow like five minutes per page! Pptx not much better.

If I print the same files that have issues PDF / PPTX from my iOS device, it generally works fine or let’s just say, better than from the Mac mini. All devices are on the same wireless network.

Appreciate any help

Hi @Chateaubrian,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Your HP Photosmart D110 printing extremely slowly from your Mac mini, especially with PDFs and PowerPoint files, but working better from ios devices, points to an issue likely on the Mac-side print pipeline, not the printer itself or the network.

1. Remove and Re-add the Printer as AirPrint

Many HP D110 models are AirPrint-compatible, which often works better with MacOS.

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select the HP D110 and click the “–” button to remove it.
  • Now click “+” to add it again.
  • In the "Use" dropdown, make sure AirPrint is selected (not “HP Photosmart driver”).
  • Test with a slow PDF.

This usually gives MacOS a cleaner, faster rendering path for print jobs.

2. Try Printing the PDF via Preview

If you're printing from Adobe Acrobat or even Microsoft Office, try instead:

  • Opening the PDF in Preview and printing from there.
  • Exporting the PowerPoint slide deck to PDF, then printing from Preview.

3. Use “Save as PDF” > Print from ios as a Test

This ensures the document is flattened and simplified:

  • On Mac, open the doc and use File > Print > Save as PDF.
  • Airdrop it to your ios device and print from there.
  • If it prints fast, the Mac's rendering is the bottleneck.

4. Optional: Reset the Printing System

If none of the above help:

  • Go to Printers & Scanners, right-click in the list of printers, choose “Reset printing system…”
  • Then re-add the printer, preferably via AirPrint.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
