HP Office Jet 5610
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Officejet5610 in WinXP always permitted to select "print preview" automatically when printing . Now that I have moved up to Windows 10 OS there is no longer a "Basics" tab under "Preferences" in the new HP driver download for Win 10 and I cannot select an automatic Print Preview whenever printing . This was a very useful facility which I miss today . I see from The Forum that others have also missed this facility and that Print Preview is no longer included in printer drivers . However , some workarounds were offered by contributors working for HP for other HP printer models . Are there workarounds for my model HP Officejet 5610 ? Thanks .

This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are not getting the print preview option before printing. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

Download and install the full feature driver.

Click here to download the driver.

If that does not fix, you can try this workaround.

You can use HP Smart Print if you are printing from the web.

Click here and refer the page for more details.

Let me know if that helps.

Cheers.

Hi Sandytechy20 ,

Thank you for your prompt response .

The full features driver you point me to is the one I have just recently downloaded and installed . The helpline in this says to go to "Preferences" and select "Basics" tab , under which you can select automatic print preview . However , this new download has no "Basics" tab that I can find  , unlike earlier drivers for Win XP which did have a"Basics" tab and I could check for automatic print preview , which I have used for many years .

I will have a look at HP Smartprint , but most of my printing is from filed documents , not so much the web .

I will get back to you on this . Thanks . Cheers . Hiker79

Hi again Sandytechy20 ,

Further to my note above :-

The HP Smart Print page you show and refer me to seems to be dead - none of the links on that page work . Searching on the HP website for "HP Smart Print" or "HP Smart web printing software" returns 0 results , but I did find a webpage in "Support" for "HP Smart web printing software" which offers only "Troubleshooting" , "How to ...." and "More support options ...." . It seems to me that either I have missed something or "HP Smart Print" is obsolete ? Can you help ? Thanks .

Cheers,

Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate your time and effort.

Install the printer with the Windows built-in driver and check if that works.

Click here and refer the document to install the printer with a built-in driver.

Let me know if that helps.

Cheers.

Hi again Sandytechy20 ,

Thank you for your further suggestion . I uninstalled the full features HP download and can now print and scan from  built-in drivers (that was new and helpful to me , thank you !)   However , the "preferences" are the same as in the full download , ie there is no provision for automatic preview before printing ; one has to deliberately select "preview" in the particular app  and then later "print" . Just hitting "Print" causes immediate printing without a preview . It is really a small inconvenience after having got used to a print preview popping up when you hit "print" . Saved many a page of wasted print ! Thank you for your suggestions but none seem to have provided the answer . I am wary of trying to install an older HP  driver for Win XP (32) into Win 10 (64) - that might get me into trouble out of my depth .

Cheers ,
