I have a LaserJet Tank mfp 2604sdw.  I used to hold down the "i" button on the printer for 5 seconds and then the green arrow to print an information report.  It keeps erroring all of a sudden after a recent software update.  Last error I got today was error 31 which makes no sense because according to hp website that error means

An attempt is made to refill toner when a refill is not required.

  • Do not attempt to refill the toner unless the toner gauge indicator displays a low condition.

But that has nothing to do with the information report that has my ip adress, firmware, number of pages I printed so far etc.

Then after fiddling with it today I found out that if I press the id card copy button for 1 second and then the "i" button for 1 second and the the green arrow button it make a print status info report page or whatever you call it.  It never used to works like that.  Not sure why all of a sudden.  Although it prints 2 pages.  1 with info and 1 blank.

Maybe the update messed something up.  Anyhow the info page printed is just like before.  Except the number of pages is missing.  Pages that I have printed so far.  Like 1000 out of 5000 prints which one toner makes.  It used to give that info and now it does not.

I tried the EWS also.  No info there.  Just shows a graph how much toner used but not toal number of pages.  And print inof page does not print form there even though it says connected and all.  IU went to 192.168.1___ (what ever my address was) and I even found the pin number under the toner lid.  But nowhere there does it say how many pages I have printed so far.

Any ideas what is happening?

Hi @kjss2 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the recent update may have impacted some of the functions of your LaserJet Tank MFP 2604sdw.

Here are a few steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

  1. Firmware Update Check: Ensure that your printer firmware is fully updated. Sometimes, issues arise if a partial or faulty update was applied. Check the HP support website for any new firmware updates or patches that might address this issue.
  2. Reset the Printer: Perform a reset of the printer settings. This might restore default settings and resolve any issues caused by the update. You can usually do this through the printer’s menu or EWS (Embedded Web Server).
  3. Hard Reset: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  4. Check Printer Settings: Review the printer settings and configuration options. It’s possible that the method for accessing the status report has changed due to the update. Refer to the printer's manual
  5. Printer Manual: Consult the printer’s user manual or HP's support documentation for updated procedures on printing the status report. It’s possible that the button combination has changed or that the information is now accessed differently.
  6. Check the EWS: Sometimes, the information displayed on the EWS might not include all details after updates. Make sure you're accessing the EWS correctly and that all necessary settings are enabled.
  7. Check Toner Gauge: The error related to toner might be a red herring if you’re not refilling toner. Verify the toner level and ensure it’s correctly installed. Sometimes, error codes can be misleading.
  8. Alternative Report Access: If the status report page prints two pages (one with information and one blank), check if there are any settings related to printing reports that might have changed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I went into the EWS and did a reset.  Same behavior.  ID copy button and green arrow print one status page and one blank page not sure why.  But the inof page does not say how many pages were printed so far like it used to.
