Hi @Eggsrus,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the "Problem with Printer or Ink System" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus usually indicates an issue related to the ink cartridges, printhead, or the system's ability to recognize them.
Here are some steps to troubleshoot this issue:
1. Reset the Printer
- With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and the printer, then turn it on.
2. Check the Ink Cartridges
- Open the printer and remove all ink cartridges.
- Inspect the cartridges for damage or leakage.
- Ensure they are genuine HP cartridges, as third-party cartridges may cause issues.
- Wipe the copper contacts on the cartridges with a lint-free cloth and distilled water or isopropyl alcohol.
3. Check the Printhead
- Remove the printhead (you may need to lift the latch near the printhead).
- Gently clean the electrical contacts on the printhead with a lint-free cloth.
- Reinsert the printhead and ensure it's securely latched.
4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Visit the HP website to check for and install the latest firmware update.
5. Perform a Printhead Cleaning
- Navigate to your printer’s control panel.
- Go to Setup > Tools > Clean Printhead and follow the on-screen instructions.
6. Perform a Printer Hard Reset
- Unplug the power cord from the printer while it's on.
- Wait for about 60 seconds and then plug the printer back in.
- Turn it on and check if the error persists.
