HP OfficeJet Pro 8710
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Update: Changed the Product Name to HP OfficeJet Pro 8710

Update: This hasn't gotten any traction, so I'm updating:

I see other posts out there with similar issues, so I've "me too-ed" a couple of posts, and added a printer driver tag.

It appears HP has a problem with printer drivers on some HP notebook models.

Printer driver will not install successfully on my HP ENVY x360 Convertible across wireless connection.

This is not a printer issue, it's a problem for this particular laptop.

Printer driver will install via USB or wired connection. If I install via wired and add on wireless, it still fails.

This became a problem after a recent Win 10 update, printing from HP Envy failed, had worked previously.

Tried all the deinstall-reinstall steps, driver still fails to load.

Current firmware on printer.

I'm out of ideas, and so is our IT staff. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

@heyJonny, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I see that you have issues with printing from the computer to the printer, follow the steps in sequence to isolate and resolve the issue-

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor and run the program. It will automatically diagnose and fix any printer connectivity issues.

For more information, go to https://support.hp.com/us-en/topic/printscandoctor

Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Create a TCP IP port

1. Print a Configuration Page to get the printer's IPv4 address (you can also tap on the wireless icon on the front panel of your Printer to get the IP address)
2. On your PC, go to Control Panel, from Devices and Printers, right-click the printer and left-click Printer Properties, select the Ports tab.
3. Click Add Port, select Standard TCP/IP Port, then select New Port and follow the wizard.
4. Type in the proper IP address for the printer.

Assign manual IP to the printer

The steps on how to set a manual IP address can be found here.

For the DNS servers please use 8.8.8.8 for the Manual Preferred DNS Server and 8.8.4.4 for the Alternate DNS server. These are Google’s public DNS servers.

If you still have issues, uninstall the printer completely and try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

Nope, not the solution. I tried all of these:

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor
Update the printer firmware
Create a TCP IP port

None resolved the issue of "driver unavailable" when installing over wireless connection.

Actually, I had tried all of these prior to my original post, and sure enough the results were the same.

Let me know when there's a solution available for these HP products that aren't working together, thanks!

Edit: Added HP product info below:

HP Envy x360 Convertible notebook + Wireless connection + HP OfficeJet Pro 8610 = Driver unavailable

Thanks for replying!

Uninstall the drivers again and follow the steps below-

1. Select “Start” and type “printers” in the search box.

2. Choose “Printers & scanners“.

3. Select “Add a printer or scanner“.

4. Wait for the “The printer that I want isn’t listed” option to appear, then select it.

5. Select “Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname” , then select “Next“.

6. Select “TCP/IP Device” in the “Device type” list.

7. Type the hostname or the IP address of the printer. Select “Next“. To find the IP address of the printer, touch the Wi-Fi icon on the printer's control panel.

8. Windows should find the printer if the printer is on and configured correctly. You may have to specify more information. If prompted, select the type of network adapter installed in the printer in the “Device Type” drop-down list. You can also click “Custom” to specify custom settings for the network printer. Select “Next“.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
