I have a Smart Tank Plus 551 and have never had an issue with it the 10,000 pages I have printed with it. I have also recommended it to quite a few others because of your Linux support that your competition does not officially offer. However, after the last update in April my printer seemed to have had a bad update. Around that time the power company was having issues with dirty power along with the ISP having signal problems (possibly related) and this is what might have caused the issue that I am assuming it's related to the firmware update. My neighbor has the same printer and is experiencing the same issue, but not as often as mine.
I tried the factory reset twice and also thought maybe the problem was being caused by a device on the network, but even with the printer disconnected from the network it would still randomly print out the information page until the feeder was empty. It is so bad now that it's constantly trying to do it and in the middle of a large print it will interrupt the ques and start printing the status pages. I tried to update the firmware but it is telling me it is up to date and won't give me the option to force a reinstall of the firmware.
Thanks.

Also, now my printer does not want to print yellow. Is there something I need to check or could the print head be worn and need to be replaced? 10K pages and 4 years is a good run so if I do need one it won't be a big deal.

Hi @J_Putz,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you’re dealing with a frustrating issue where your HP Smart Tank Plus 551 printer is randomly printing “Printer Information Pages” after a firmware update. Since you’ve already tried a factory reset and confirmed that the firmware is up-to-date, here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
1. Verify Printer Settings
Check Printer Settings on the Device:
- On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the settings menu and check if there’s an option related to printing status or information pages. Make sure these options are turned off if possible.
Access Printer Settings via HP Smart App:
- Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
- Go to Printer Settings and look for any options related to printing reports or information pages. Adjust these settings if needed.
2. Check for Firmware Issues
Attempt a Manual Firmware Update:
- If the printer firmware update function is not working as expected, visit the HP Support website and search for the latest firmware for your printer model.
- Download the firmware update file manually and follow any provided instructions to perform the update.
Perform a Firmware Rollback (if available):
- Some printers may allow you to rollback to a previous firmware version. Check the HP Support website or contact HP Support to see if this option is available.
3. Inspect for Hardware Issues
Check for Internal Paper Jams:
- Ensure there are no paper jams or debris inside the printer that could be causing erroneous print commands.
Inspect the Printhead and Cartridges:
- Check if the printhead and ink cartridges are properly installed and seated. Remove and reinsert them if necessary.
4. Network and Connectivity Check
Disconnect from Network:
- Since you mentioned the issue persists even when the printer is disconnected from the network, ensure that no other devices are sending print jobs or commands to the printer.
Network Configuration:
- If connected, ensure that your network settings are properly configured. Check for any unusual network traffic that might be affecting the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
