How do I remove the checkmark on my driver as default printer to the actual printer. IOS 8.1

Hi @Deb0406,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how confusing this can be; seeing a checkmark on the wrong printer driver instead of your actual HP printer makes printing feel impossible. Let’s fix this so your HP printer becomes the default.

Why This Happens

On iOS 8.1, printing uses AirPrint, and the default printer is usually the last one you selected. If a driver or virtual printer shows as the default, it means the app cached it.

Steps to Remove the Checkmark and Set Your HP Printer

  1. Open the App You’re Printing From
    (e.g., Mail, Safari, Photos).

  2. Tap Share → Print
    • You’ll see the current printer with the checkmark.

  3. Tap Printer
    • A list of available printers appears.

  4. Select Your HP Printer
    • Make sure your HP printer is on the same Wi-Fi network.

  5. Print Once
    • iOS will now remember this printer as the default for future prints.

If the Wrong Printer Keeps Appearing

  • Forget the old printer:
    • Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > AirPrint Printers (or in the app).
    • Remove any saved printers that aren’t your HP.
  • Restart your iPhone and printer to refresh the AirPrint cache.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
