HP Deskjet 2652
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have run out of black ink. On the printer’s display, it shows my colored ink is 2/3 full. This being the case, I tried to print a Microsoft Word document by changing the color of ALL TEXT in the document from black to red. Instead of printing the document, my HP DeskJet 2652 fed through blank pages without a word of text, and an error message popped up informing me that I am out of black ink. I did not need the black ink. The only color ink I needed to print this document was red.

Hi @Poorservice69

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the ink cartridge issue.

Use the single cartridge mode to operate the printer with only one cartridge. The single cartridge mode is initiated when one of the following occurs -

● There is only one cartridge installed in the carriage.

● A cartridge is removed from the carriage if there are two cartridges installed previously.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for your response. I removed both cartridges from the printer, unplugged my printer from the power source for 60 seconds, turned it on and waited until the printer was silent, and replaced only the color cartridge that was 2/3 full, all in a final attempt to activate single-cartridge mode after several failed attempts. I tried to print another document in red ink. The same error message displayed: out of black ink. The document I tried to print came out blank, once again. I am going to purchase a new black ink cartridge to find out whether the printer is really broken.
