HP Recommended

After calling HP to order a toner cartridge for my 3 year old (or less) HP Laser jet Pro,  and being told that the Toner cartridge would be $235, and all ink cartridges would be close to that amount each,  I chose to buy the newer version of the very same printer.  I know how to use this printer!  I cannot get the paper tray to close - it stops with 3 inches of the tray sticking out.  Customer service could not help because my phone will not accept Safari as a browser (though it is an Iphone).  I'm 2 hours into this frustrating situation.  I NEED to use this printer NOW!  Any suggestions?  I cannot imagine why the tray will not close!   I just opened this new printer.  The suggested video for set up does not cover this issue.  HELP please.   Is this printer defective?
