Dear HP Support,
I am writing to request assistance with downgrading the firmware on my HP OfficeJet Pro 8620. The current firmware version installed is FDP1CN2022AR.
Since this update, I have been experiencing critical issues with the printer:
The printer rejects official HP cartridges (HP 950/951), even though they are genuine and worked perfectly before the update.
When I install all four cartridges, the printer shows errors with the black and magenta ones.
If I install only three cartridges (any three), the printer reports no issues.
I tested the black and magenta cartridges separately, and they both work individually. However, using both at the same time causes an error.
All basic troubleshooting steps have been completed: sensor cleaning, power reset, contact cleaning, and multiple cartridge replacements.
I believe the firmware update has introduced restrictions or compatibility issues, and I would like to request help to revert to a previous firmware version, preferably FDP1CN1914AR or any other known stable release.
I understand HP has protections in place against downgrades, but I would appreciate if you could:
Provide a method, utility, or authorized technician who can assist me,
Or confirm whether downgrade is technically possible in my case.
Thank you for your attention and support. I look forward to your guidance.
Best regards,

@afonsoferreira, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the issues you’ve been experiencing with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620. I understand how frustrating it can be.
After reviewing your case, I regret to inform you that downgrading the firmware on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 is not possible.
However, try the below steps:
HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP or refilled cartridges. HP recommends using genuine HP ink or toner supplies available from the HP Store. Go to HP Anti Counterfeiting and Fraud Program for more information on using authentic HP cartridges.
If the error displays with genuine HP cartridges, select No, OK, or Continue. If the print job completes, the issue is resolved but you might need to dismiss the message every time you print until the cartridges are depleted. Otherwise continue with these steps to resolve the issue.
Reset the printer
Reset the printer to recover from printer errors or failures.
- If your printer has a rechargeable battery, remove it.
- Press the power button to turn off the printer. If the printer does not turn off, disconnect the power cord from the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the power source.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Connect the power cord directly to a wall outlet and to the printer.
- Turn on the printer to complete the reset.
Replace the problem cartridge
Installing a new cartridge usually resolves cartridge errors.
- Obtain a replacement cartridge.
- Printer is enrolled in Instant Ink. Replacement cartridges are part of your subscription. If you have another Instant Ink cartridge on hand, install it. Otherwise, contact HP Instant Ink support for a new cartridge.
- Printer is NOT enrolled in Instant Ink. Go to the HP Store or a local retailer to find and purchase compatible supplies. HP recommends genuine HP cartridges.
- Open the door or lid to the cartridge access area. Wait until the carriage stops moving before continuing.
- Remove the cartridge indicated in the error message, and then insert the new cartridge into the slot.
- Repeat these steps to replace any other cartridges indicated in the error message.
- Close the door or lid to the cartridge access area, and then follow any instructions to align the printer.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
