Yup.  Scammed big time.  I contacted HP123 about an issue with my new Smart Tank not connecting to my computer and immediately received a phone call from a "HP Technician" who quickly solved my problem via remote access and in the process informed me that the issue was a virus in my computer.  He offered to clean my computer and install a firewall.  And then, using lots of scare tactics with illustrations from the internet, sold me a lifetime service plan.

I hired a local computer tech to remove all the phony software they installed on my computer, reset all passwords, and filed a fraud report with the FTC.

They are very polished.  Very convincing.  Hope someone stops them.

Yes, some of the rascals are very talented at their craft.

The best of them might spoof sites, hide / spoof phone numbers, and even manipulate browser history.

Notifying the authorities may not seem like much, but this sort of information helps to build cases and helps others.

I am glad you wiggled free.

Good job.
