Since the Mac OS 10.15.7 update, I can't print

Product: Envy Photo 7885
Operating System: macOS 10.15 Catalina

Since updating my iMac to OS 10.15.7 I have issues printing. The HP Smart app shows the printer is out of paper, but it prints status reports from the same app. I got that fixed but after reinstalling the HP Smart app, it's back.

 

When I try to print a simple text only file from Illustrator, the print queue keeps defaulting to pause. I'm losing it after un-installing and reinstalling and resetting bluetooth and removing the paper and adding the paper, all multiple times.

 

I finally got registered here, after three tries, having failed when I bought the printer. Now it's out of warranty to boot. The Catcha security wall makes me feel like I'm on acid. Crappy photos and the foolishness are a reminder it's still 2020.

 

Please help me.

I could have skipped all the ridiculousness... Finally saw reference on another forum to 123.hp. com/setup, and remembered that's where I had been directed after buying and unboxing the printer to set up. This takes your through a complete install and installs the printer in the Printer & Devices folder in Preferences and sets the Envy Photo 7885 as the default printer. What a wild goose chase. D'oh! 

 

Every other avenue I followed did not do this. Sheesh. 

 

Technology is wonderful, but troubleshooting the issues, not so much. Thank goodness for these forums, I swear the best answers come from enthusiastic users who share half the time. 

 

I am happy to report I've printed and will now be getting alerts and stuff via email, so the HP marketing team should be happy.
