Thanks for the details. Let’s work through some specific troubleshooting steps for your HP Smart Tank 581 All-in-One Printer on Windows 10 (64-bit) to resolve your printing issue.

Step 1: Check the Basics

  1. Is the printer powered on and showing a ready status?
  2. Are there any error lights or messages on the printer display panel?
  3. Are you connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the printer? (If using Wi-Fi)
  4. Check that the paper is loaded and ink levels are not critically low.


Step 2: Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Official Tool)

  1. Download it from here:
    👉 Fix HP Scanning problems and errors using HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows
  2. Install and run the tool.
  3. Select your printer > Click “Fix Printing.”

This tool can automatically resolve most common print errors.


Step 3: Try a Test Page

From Windows 10:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select your HP Smart Tank 581.
  • Click “Manage” > “Print a test page.”

If the test page works: The printer is functional — the issue might be with a specific application (like Word or browser).

If it fails: Proceed to the next step.


Step 4: Reinstall Printer Drivers

  1. Unplug the USB cable or disconnect Wi-Fi temporarily.
  2. Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click and remove your printer.
  3. Restart your PC.
  4. Download and install the latest full software and drivers from HP:
