We changed our internet provider recently, I tried to set up again the printer in HP smart by adding the printer because I removed it. It says offline and won't be able to add it. I tried multiple steps in YT but it didn't work.
Please help, thank you in advance!

@wendsss, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I understand you're having trouble reconnecting your HP Smart Tank 515 Wireless All-in-One printer after switching internet providers. No worries, I'll guide you through the steps to get your printer back online and working with HP Smart on Windows 11.
Why This Happens
When you change your Wi-Fi network, your printer remains connected to the old network. Since it no longer has access to that network, it appears offline.
Step-by-Step Fix
Step 1: Reset the Printer’s Network Settings
This will allow the printer to forget the old Wi-Fi and enter setup mode.
- On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button together for 5 seconds.
- The Wireless light will start blinking - this means the printer is in Wi-Fi setup mode.
Step 2: Reconnect the Printer Using HP Smart
- Open the HP Smart app on your Windows 11 PC.
- Click “Add Printer”.
- The app should detect your printer in setup mode. Select it.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your new Wi-Fi network.
If you don’t have HP Smart installed, download it here: HP Smart
Step 3: Set the Printer as Default (Optional)
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Click your printer > Set as default.

@wendsss, Thank you for the update, and for sharing the screenshot, that helps clarify things.
The icon showing on the printer display (between the paper icon and the wireless icon) appears to be the Wi-Fi Direct icon, the one with a smartphone and a signal beam.
This means Wi-Fi Direct mode is active, and the printer may be broadcasting its own hotspot instead of being fully connected to your new Wi-Fi router for network printing.
Recommended Fix Steps:
Disable Wi-Fi Direct (Optional but recommended)
Since both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, Wi-Fi Direct is not needed:
- On the printer, press and hold the Information button (i) + Cancel button for about 3 seconds to print a Wi-Fi Direct info page.
- If it's ON, go into the HP Smart app > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings (EWS).
- Navigate to Network > Wi-Fi Direct > Turn Off Wi-Fi Direct, or set it to Manual instead of Automatic.
Verify Printer’s IP Address
Print the Network Configuration Page:
- On the printer, press and hold the Information (i) button until it prints a report.
- Look for the IP Address under the “Wireless” section (e.g., 192.168.1.xxx).
Use IP to Add the Printer Manually
If Windows still shows it as offline:
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Click Add device > Add manually > Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.
- Enter the printer’s IP address from the network report.
- Follow prompts to complete setup.
Set as Default & Restart Spooler
Just in case:
- Set the printer as Default again.
- Open Services (press Win+R → type services.msc)
- Find Print Spooler, right-click > Restart.
Additional Tip:
If HP Smart shows it as “Ready” but Windows apps still say “Offline,” try printing directly from HP Smart first to verify communication. If it works, Windows may just need a manual IP re-addition as mentioned above.
I hope this helps!
