HP Smart Tank 5000/5100 All-in-One Printer
Other

My Macbook pro is using the macOS Ventura Version 13.7.4. I am trying to remove margins from my prints so it covers the full page. I am printing PNGs and JPGs. I can remove margins if I go to print (outside of the app) but for some reason it is only saying I can print in black and white. If i go into the app I can print color but there is a border. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi @HandcraftedHome,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for the detailed description—it really helps paint a clear picture of the printing challenges you're facing with your HP Smart Tank 5000/5100 on MacOS Ventura 13.7.4. It’s understandably frustrating when you're trying to achieve borderless, full-colour photo-quality prints, only to get stuck between missing color options in one method and unwanted margins in the other.

1. Enable Borderless Printing in MacOS Settings

Before printing, do this:

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Click Options & Supplies > Driver tab.
  • Check if there is a “Borderless Printing” option and make sure it’s enabled.
    • If not visible, remove and re-add the printer using the AirPrint or HP driver instead of the generic one.

2. Use HP Photo Printing App for Mac (if available)

HP Smart can be limited to photo settings. For photo or edge-to-edge image printing:

  • Try using Preview, Photos, or a 3rd-party app like GIMP or Lightroom, which lets you:
    • Choose paper size (e.g., Photo Borderless 8.5"x 11").
    • Set scaling to 100% and select “Print Entire Image”.
    • Check the “borderless” or “scale to fit” box in the print dialogue.

3. Try Exporting as PDF First (Optional)

Sometimes PNGs and JPGs behave differently depending on the app. Exporting your image as a PDF with no margins, then printing using Preview, can sometimes retain colour and borderless options.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
