DeskJet 2130
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Hello, I was having a clean install of 32-bit Windows 10 on a 64-bit processor. I was downloading HP DeskJet 2130 printer driver and the computer is able to detect my printer. However, when the computer was connecting the printer, the error message keeps coming out saying unable to connect, please try again as shown in the picture below. I have tried running diagnosis but no sign of error. I have tried using auto-update drivers using device manager, the computer says the system is not compatible with the driver version. I have tried unplug, uninstall drivers and printers and install again on different USB ports on the computer, even changing USB cords, it comes with the same results. I have tried HP Scan and Doctor application, all it suggest is just installing the driver without concrete diagnosis on the problem. I was stuck for days and some concrete advice or steps could really help, thanks.undefined

No, same thing repeats itself. I have tried to using other printers the computer is still not able to detect. At last, I bought a new computer and everything works fine, probably the old computer is just too old to run such software. Anyway, thank you for you guys for providing some good suggestions. Hope others will find this thread useful as well.

A very warm welcome to the HP community. A very good day to you.

I understand that you have an HP DeskJet 2130 All-in-One Printer and it does not get installed on Win10 computer. Not to worry, I'll do my best to help you. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Are you trying to install the drivers using the disk or from the HP website?

NOTE: If you're going to connect the printer via USB, then do not connect it initially. Begin the installation first and later there will be a prompt to connect the printer. That's when you may connect the printer.

I did some research and suggest you to perform the following steps to fix the issue:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
  • Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

You may download the Win10 drivers for the printer from this link and then install them.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know the results. Cheers! 🙂

Hello, thanks for ur solution, since the printer is from my office I will try it tomorrow. I have my drivers installed by downloading from the Internet.
I would like to know when should I press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Should it be after I restarted the printer after I directly remove the power cable or before I remove it?

Hello, I have tried to follow your methods but it comes with the same result, I have uninstalled drivers, uninstalled the device, reboot, then followed your steps and restarted the printer and computer, not plugging the USB cable in initially. Re-downloaded the drivers of the printer from the Internet. But still ends in the same page. Does it mean that the computer is not compatible with my computer?? Will there be any other steps that I can take?

Hi @bolt826, I am the @Chimney_83. It looks like you were interacting with @MKazi, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps. Recommend you uninstall the printer software and settings again by following the exact procedure mentioned below and install it back by downloading the latest full feature software from www.hp.com/drivers

Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)

Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.

Click on print server properties.

You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.

Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.

Restart the PC.

Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,

Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.

It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files, ignore them).

If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.

Restart the PC again.

Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

Let me know if this helped.

Sorry but it didn't work, the system recognizes the printer but the driver installation program keep showing the error message again. It once worked. However, when I tried to register printer online, the webpage jumped to another page itself and programs like Microsoft Word still didn't recognize the printer. Then after this once time the printer goes back to the same page, showing the same error message. I performed every step every time and it is really time consuming. So probably I will just buy a new computer :Crying:

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate you taking your valuable time to troubleshoot the issue.

Looks like there is a conflict between the Windows operating system and the drivers. I suggest you to try installing the inbuilt printer drivers in Windows.

Please perform the following steps to install the basic printer drivers:

  • Search Windows for devices, and then click Devices and Printers in the list of results.

  • Click Add a printer.

Figure : Clicking Add a printer

Clicking Add a printer

  • A Choose a device or printer to add to this PC window opens.

  • If your printer is in the list, select it, click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver. You can now use your printer.
  • If your printer is not in the list, continue to the next step.
  • Click The printer I want isn't listed, and then select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.

  • Click Next.

  • Select Use an existing port (USB001: Virtual printer port for USB), and then click Next.

  • Click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to update.

  • Click HP, Hewlett-Packard, or Hewlett Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

  • Click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver. You can now use your printer.

  • Disconnect the printer USB cable from the computer, and then reconnect the cable. You can now use your printer.

If your printer name is not listed then select the drivers for HP Deskjet 990c printer and continue to install it. The drivers for HP Deskjet 990c should work for your printer.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂

@MKazi

Thank you for your suggestion, but the driver cannot be installed as the error message shown in the photo below.

What it means in the message box is Windows cannot install HK DeskJet 2130 series, the core mode printer driver installation program. If I would like to install such program, please contact the producer.

P.S.: Yes, you can see HP DeskJet 2130 series printer on the device and printer page. However, when I open application like Microsoft Office to try print something, there is no the option of the HP printer. When I plug the USB cable in the system shows HP printer is having other settings and then it shows it finished setting, but still the driver installation program shows error message.......and no program showing sign of this printer.

You're welcome. Thanks for replying with the information.

Since the drivers for the HP DeskJet 2130 did not go well, could you install the drivers for HP Deskjet 990c as an alternate driver and check?

Let me know. Good luck! 🙂
