I have followed this chain with interest, since I have the same problem., having installed the HP Smart software a few times, tried a different print driver, bought new cables, and consulted with a HP technician by phone.  He suggested that the only recourse was to get a technical specialist on the phone, with a charge of $100.  That's more than the printer is worth.  Maybe someone will stumble on a solution and share it.

Hi all,

I managed to figure out how to install the printer and have it working on Mac through a phone call with HP Thailand. Basically when you download HP Easy Start there is an option to "skip software download" which allows you to not download HP Smart (which seems to be the issue with my Mac). Be sure that all HP software has been removed before trying this again, then follow the instructions after pressing "skip software download"

I can't locate the "skip software download" in the process.  Is it stated in that terminology?  after installing HP Easy Start?

Mine is working!!  I found an OfficeJet driver 7513 at https://driver-hp.net/hp-officejet-7513-driver/

version 2.8.0.177

 

Apparently, this is something of a generic driver, and it functions with my basic DeskJet 1112, connected to a 2019 MacBook Air running OS 11.4.  Nothing else I've tried has worked.
