I keep seeing daily error messages in Windows 10 Update saying it is trying to install a driver update when the current driver is probably better than the one it keeps trying to install, and that it will keep on trying to install. This does seem self-contradictory!
Looking at the driver update history, there is a long list of entries like the following:
Hewlett-Packard - USB - 2/10/2017 12:00:00 AM - 44.1.2402.1741
Successfully installed on 18/02/2021
So this must be the driver for my HP OfficeJet printer that is connected to my HP Envy laptop.
The Windows Update trouble-shooter did not detect any problems, and neither did the trouble-shooters/scans in the HP Support Assistant.
Is it possible to somehow hide my printer driver from Windows Update and just use the HP Support Assistant to check that my printer driver is up to date?
Back in October 2020 I posted this query on the Microsoft website forum. One of the Microsoft advisers said this was a known bug (and nothing to be concerned about) that would be resolved in future updates, but clearly it has not been sorted out yet. From my Internet searching to try and find a solution it seems that quite a lot of people have a similar issue.
