Product: HP color laserjet 476

I have an  HP Color LJ 476 it's been a great printer, but on and off for a long time I've had issues with the printing shortcuts not retaining their setting for color vs. B&W.

 

it does not seem to matter if I set it (and save it) just before printing a document,

or if I set/save it from:  Settings --> Bluetooth & others  --> Printers  --> Manage --> Printing preferences

Also does not matter if I edit one of the pre-defined shortcuts or create a new one.

I have the current printer driver installed and tried reinstalling it but no change.

 

I've scanned for existing threads on the topic, but didn't find anything.
