HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw

Is it possible to connect my HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw to my Mac using an USB-cable. I have earlier tried through WLAN but I have a newer WLAN that's not working good with HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw (info from HP Support). So, is it possible to connect through USB cable? (I dint se the possibility in the driver, only WLAN and LAN there)

HI @sthbjma,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Yes, it is possible to connect your HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw to your Mac using a USB cable. Although the HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw primarily supports WLAN and LAN connections, you can still use it via USB with a proper setup. Here’s how to connect and set up your printer via USB on your Mac:

1. Connect the Printer to Your Mac

  • Ensure your HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw is turned on.
  • Use a standard USB cable to connect the printer to your Mac. Plug one end of the USB cable into the USB port on the printer and the other end into an available USB port on your Mac.

2. Install the Printer Drivers

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for your HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw.
  • Choose the macOS version that matches your Mac from the dropdown list.
  • Download the latest drivers and software for macOS.
  • Open the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer drivers on your Mac.

3. Add the Printer to Your Mac

  • On your Mac, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences.
  • Click on Printers & Scanners.
  • Click the + button to add a new printer.
  • Your Mac should automatically detect the HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw if it’s properly connected via USB.
  • Choose the HP Color Laser MFP 179fnw from the list of available printers.
  • If prompted, select the appropriate printer driver that you installed earlier.
  • Click Add to complete the setup.

4. Test the Printer:

  • Try printing a test page to ensure that the printer is correctly connected and functioning.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
