Hi @seaneen1

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To connect your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 to your Acer Chromebook, follow these steps to ensure a successful setup:

Wireless Connection:

Ensure Both Devices Are on the Same Wi-Fi Network:

  • Double-check that both your Chromebook and the printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Printer Setup:

  • On your printer, press the Wi-Fi button to make sure it's connected to the network. If needed, run the Wireless Setup Wizard from the printer’s control panel:
    • Go to Settings > Network Setup > Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the prompts.

Add Printer on Chromebook:

  • On your Chromebook, open Settings by clicking the time in the bottom right corner and selecting the gear icon.
  • Scroll down to Advanced, then find Printing and select Printers.
  • Click Add Printer. Your Chromebook should automatically detect the OfficeJet Pro 6978. Click on it to add it.

Print a Test Page:

  • After adding the printer, try printing a test page to see if it works.

USB Connection:

Connect the Printer via USB:

  • Connect your printer to the Chromebook using a USB cable.

Check Printer Recognition:

  • Open Settings on your Chromebook and go to Printing > Printers. Your printer should appear in the list. If it doesn’t, try reconnecting the USB cable.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
