connecting printer

I have a DeskJet 2132 - dead simple and basic, and with my previous two laptops it has just plugged in and played. I just plugged it into the USB and off we went.

The new one, a Dell, will not play nicely.

I can't even see it on the list to add it.

I don't have any of the installation software any more - am I scuppered?

Thanks

Hi @TAB2121,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

No need to worry! You can still set up your HP DeskJet 2132 printer on your new Dell laptop even if you don't have the original installation software. Here's how to do it:

Step 1: Plug the USB Cable Into a Different USB port.

It sounds silly, but it works:

  • Unplug the USB cable from the laptop
  • Plug it into a different USB port
  • Wait 20–30 seconds

You should hear Windows make its soft “device detected” sound.

If nothing appears, continue.

Step 2: Restart the Printer Connection

  1. Turn the printer off
  2. Unplug the USB from the laptop
  3. Wait 10 seconds
  4. Turn the printer on
  5. Plug the USB back in after it finishes warming up

Windows should now attempt to install the driver again.

Step 3: Download the HP Driver (No CD Required)

HP provides everything online.

On your Dell:

  1. Open your web browser
  2. Click: HP DeskJet 2132 All-in-One Printer | HP® Support.
  3. Download HP Easy Start or the Full Driver Package
  4. Run the installer
  5. Choose USB setup

This will install the correct software automatically.

Step 4: Add the Printer Manually (If It Still Doesn’t Show)

Sometimes Windows sees the device but doesn’t add it.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to Bluetooth & devices → Printers & Scanners
  3. Click Add device
  4. Wait for “DeskJet 2130 series” to appear
  5. Select it

If it doesn’t show:

  • Click Add manually
  • Choose USB
  • Select “DeskJet 2130 series”

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
