hi,

all of a sudden, after many years now, my laptop does not read my printer. i've uninstalled old and re-installed new software and applications, checked for updates...also tried all the laptop ports. yet the 'add a device' shows 'device not found'.

as a result i'm unable to use the solution center and all its related uses.

is it the printer or my laptop or just an old cable!?

what am i doing wrong? how can i correct it?

kindly help.

thank you.

regards.

Ideas

  • Disconnect the USB cable from between the Printer and the Computer
  • If you like, create a Restore Point:

Stop all programs:  Browsers, games, Applications, etc.

Control Panel > icon view > System > System Protection

Click (Highlight) your main disk (C) > Select Create a Restore Point

  • Uninstall the existing printer programs from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

  • After the removal is complete, reboot / restart the computer and log in.

  • Download the Full Feature Software package and save it to your Downloads folder.

  • Double-click on the package to start the installation of the software

  • Connect the USB cable when instructed (during the later phase of the installation).

  • After the installation of the Full Feature Software appears to have completed, reboot / restart the computer and log in to "finish" the installation of the printer program.

Full Feature Software:

hi dragon-fur,

oh i've already done all the above steps you've mentioned...thrice! (now that assures me that i was doing the right thing!)

yet, my printer remains as 'device not found'!

and the best part being that it takes commands from the laptop when i try to print any document or picture and prints 'em smoothly!

but when i turn on solution center, well therein lies the puzzle!

still baffled i am.

thank you.

warm regards.

Well, if you have tried the install steps, tried a different USB cable, tried the printer reset...

I don't know.

It is frequently the simple solution that provides the answer!

The printer is considered "vintage" by now; the support documentation may disappear at an inopportune time:  Please download and save any / all the documents for your printer that are of interest.

For Example:

Happy Printing!

oh yes, i skipped many breaths when i read today on hp's website that usually after 10 years they declare a product "outdated"! and then i quickly searched for mine. ah, caught those breaths when i didn't find my printer there!!

...bah, i tell you!!

today, the momentous day for my printer and a moment of lil' nirvana for me, finally i changed the cable, and for the zillionth time unistalled and re-installed the full software.

and yes, thanks so very much dragon-fur for boosting that i was on the right path all along and also for the new links...shall do the needful!

this "vintage" horse is up and galloping...yet again!!

warm regards.
