Hi @JamesFung,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To factory reset your HP OfficeJet 7740, which is useful for resetting admin and EMS (Embedded Web Server) passwords, follow these steps. A factory reset will return the printer to its original settings, including network settings, passwords, and any other configurations.
Factory Reset HP OfficeJet 7740
1. Power On the Printer:
- Ensure your HP OfficeJet 7740 is turned on. If it’s not, press the power button to start it.
2. Perform a Factory Reset
- On the printer’s touchscreen control panel, tap on Setup (the gear icon).
- In the Setup menu, scroll down and select Printer Maintenance.
- Tap on Restore or Restore Factory Defaults. The exact wording might vary slightly.
- Confirm that you want to restore the printer to its factory settings. The printer will process the reset, which may take a few moments.
3. Reset the Network Settings (If Needed)
If you also need to reset the network settings:
- On the control panel, go back to Setup and then Network Setup.
- Choose Restore Network Settings and confirm.
4. Reconfigure the Printer
After the reset, you'll need to reconfigure your printer:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your printer again, including connecting it to your Wi-Fi network if necessary.
- Set up new passwords and configurations according to your needs.
Additional Steps
1. Reset Admin Password
If you need to reset the admin password for the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS):
- On your computer, open a web browser and enter the printer’s IP address (found on the printer’s network configuration page) into the address bar.
- Log in to the EWS with the current admin credentials.
- Go to the Security or Admin settings section and change the password.
If you don't have the current admin credentials and need to reset them as part of a factory reset, performing a full factory reset as described above should reset all settings, including passwords.
2. Update Firmware (Optional)
After resetting, consider updating the printer’s firmware:
- Go to the HP Support website and search for your HP OfficeJet 7740 model.
- Download any available firmware updates and follow the instructions to install them.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
