My HP Smart app has been updated to the latest. Now that Microsoft took the Mail app off our computers I can no longer scan and send documents via "share" option using HP smart. i.e. selecting my Mail app. Doing some searching I found that I could add "selectees" via the EWS online app. It appears I can no longer do that. I would like to add my NEW mail app to the list to have the same functionality as previous.

Hi @rstarch345,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To add contacts in the HP Smart app for the "Document Share" feature and configure it to work with your new mail app, follow these steps.

Update HP Smart App Settings

Ensure that the HP Smart app is updated to the latest version (you mentioned it is). If you suspect a recent update caused changes, it might be worth reviewing the new features or documentation on the app.

Add Contacts for Sharing:

Unfortunately, as of recent updates, the HP Smart app no longer allows adding contacts directly via the Embedded Web Server (EWS). However, you can still manage this within the app:

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • Go to the "Share" section or look for the option to scan and send.
  • When sharing a document, type in the email address manually. The app may save the email for quicker access in the future.
  • Note: If the app doesn’t save the email, check if there’s an option to enable contact saving in the app settings.

Use Your New Mail App for Sharing:

Since Microsoft removed the Mail app, you need to set your new mail app as the default for sending documents. Here’s how to configure this:

Windows (PC):

  1. Set Default Email App:
    • Open Settings > Apps > Default Apps.
    • Scroll to find Email and set your new mail app (e.g., Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) as the default.
  2. Configure HP Smart to Use Default App:
    • Open the HP Smart app.
    • Navigate to Settings (gear icon).
    • Under Sharing Options, verify that the app is set to use the system's default mail client.
    • If this option is not visible, sharing may only work via online email services (like Gmail or Outlook web) through manual input.

Workaround with Web-Based Mail:

If you’re using web-based email (like Gmail or Outlook.com):

  1. Scan the document via HP Smart.
  2. Save it locally on your computer or device.
  3. Attach the scanned document manually through your web-based email interface.

Alternative Software or Methods:

If you find the new HP Smart functionality lacking, you can:

  • Use third-party scanning tools like NAPS2 or Windows Scan.
  • Share scanned files directly from these apps using your preferred mail client.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

None of the above was available. However, when the share window was displayed there was a .pdf copy option. That will work for me. Thank you for your efforts. :: Rodney
