macOS 10.15 Catalina

i upgraded tp macOS Catalina 10.15.2.  Before i upgraded , wireless printing was no problem .  After the upgrade theMac could not find the printer.  I called Apple and was told that because my printer does not support AirPrint, iy will not work.   I tried call\ing HP support to see if they had a work around or update and they would not talk to me without giving them $19.99 upfront.  Are you kidding me???????  If i can't get an answer from the community , my next step will be to upgrade my printer to anything but HP.  Way to go HP

Firstly, your printer is AirPrint compatible.

 

This could be an issue with connectivity or the drivers installed. Let us try to isolate the issue-

 

  • Are the printer and PC connected to the same network?
  • Is your router dual-band enabled i.e., both 2.4GHz and 5GHz?
  • What is the distance between the router and the printer?
  • Is there any antivirus software installed on your computer?
  • Could you perform a ping test using the Mac Network Utility and let me know the results?

Use the printer IP address to perform a ping test, the printer IP can be located by selecting the wireless icon on the printer display.

 

The wireless status menu on your Mac should also give us quite a lot of information that would help us identify the issue. You can press and hold option-click the WiFi icon and then use shift-command-5 to take the screenshot. Press the space bar when the icon turns into a camera. Share the ping test results and the screenshot with us.

 

Also, check with your Internet service provider if your router is able to forward 'Bonjour packets'. 

Bonjour locates devices such as printers, other computers, and the services that those devices offer on a local network using multicast Domain Name System (mDNS) service records. The software comes built-in with Apple's macOS and iOS operating systems.

the router was just recently replaced from a single band to a dual band router

Yes they are in the same network 

yes it is dual band

distance from printer to router is about 50feet. It has Always been in the same spot

no anti virus. It is a Mac

ping test on the MAC is 10.6Mbps

ping is 31ms

upload is 1.9Mbps

jitter is 7

Could you perform a ping test using the Mac Network Utility and let me know the results?

I sent the results of the ping test you wanted and have not recurved a reply.  Does that mean u gave up and the printer is useless.  Please reply

I want you to ping the printer's IP address from the computer. That would give us packet loss if any and also help us understand the connectivity between the devices.

This will help us isolate the issue and proceed further with the required troubleshooting.

 

The ping test results you provided does not seem to be the one we are looking for.

 

My previous post has steps on how to do the ping test.
