Hi @fallingacorns

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels when your printer seems to stay asleep no matter what you try. Let’s walk through a set of clear steps together to gently bring your HP 4200e back to life:

Step 1: Power and Connection Check

  • Make sure the printer’s power cable is firmly seated in both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • If it’s connected through a surge protector or extension cord, try plugging it directly into the wall to ensure steady power.
  • Confirm that the power button responds when pressed—sometimes holding it for a few seconds helps.

Step 2: Wake-Up via Control Panel

  • Tap the display or press any button on the printer’s control panel.
  • If the screen remains blank, press and hold the power button for 3–5 seconds to force a wake-up.

Step 3: Restart Cycle

  • Turn the printer off completely by pressing the power button until it shuts down.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the cord and press the power button to restart.

Step 4: Network Awareness

  • If the printer is connected via Wi-Fi, ensure your router is on and stable.
  • Sometimes the printer stays in sleep mode if it cannot detect a network. Restarting the router can refresh the connection.

Step 5: Driver and App Sync

  • On your Windows computer, open the HP App and check if the printer shows as “offline.”
  • If it does, remove the printer from the app and re-add it to refresh communication.
  • Run the Diagnose & Fix option in the HP App to automatically check for issues.

Step 6: Firmware Refresh

  • From the HP App, check for updates. Installing the latest firmware can resolve sleep/wake responsiveness.

Your effort in reaching out and trying to revive the printer is appreciated—it shows great patience. After following these steps, the printer should stir back into action with a responsive screen and ready status. If it still resists waking up, repeating the power cycle once more often helps.
