Ever since I have upgraded to the MAC OS, I can't get my printer, Xpress 1860fw, to printer.  I normally have it connected via USP, but i was able to get the printer to work, ONLY IN BLACK AND WHITE, using the wifi set up.  But wifi is a pain in the neck and does not remain connected!  I am sure the problem is the drivers, i have downloaded what i think are the newest drivers, but printing keeps failing.  I was able to get it printer to scan.  HELP

Hi @Pat3031,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're facing a frustrating issue with your Samsung Xpress 1860fw printer after upgrading your macOS. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the printing issues.

Check Printer Drivers

Ensure you have the latest drivers compatible with your current macOS version. Samsung printers are now supported by HP, so you might need to download drivers from the HP website. You can find the drivers here:

  • HP Support for Samsung Printers

Remove and Reinstall the Printer

Sometimes, removing the printer from your Mac and then reinstalling it can resolve driver-related issues.

Remove the Printer:

  • Open System Preferences on your Mac.
  • Go to Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your Samsung Xpress 1860fw printer and click the - button to remove it.

Reinstall the Printer:

  • Click the + button to add a new printer.
  • Your Mac should search for available printers. Select your Xpress 1860fw and let macOS automatically download the appropriate drivers.

Use Generic Printer Drivers

If the specific drivers don’t work, you can try using the generic printer drivers built into macOS.

  1. Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Click the + button to add a new printer.
  3. Select your printer and choose “Generic PostScript Printer” or “Generic PCL Printer” as the driver.

Update macOS

Make sure your macOS is fully updated, as updates can sometimes resolve compatibility issues with printers.

  1. Go to System Preferences > Software Update.
  2. Install any available updates.

Reset Printing System

Resetting the printing system can help clear any issues with printer queues or configurations.

  1. Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) on the printer list and select “Reset printing system...”.
  3. Confirm the reset, and then add your printer again.

Check Printer Settings and Network

Since you mentioned that the printer only prints in black and white when connected via Wi-Fi, ensure that:

  • Your printer’s settings are configured correctly for color printing.
  • The Wi-Fi connection is stable and reliable. Consider using a wired connection if Wi-Fi issues persist.

Firmware Update

Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the Samsung or HP website. Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve compatibility issues with newer operating systems.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
