Hi @jmorris7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw has suddenly stopped working and you're encountering a Wi-Fi connection error, here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

1. Check Printer and Network Status

Restart Devices:

  • Power off your printer and unplug it from the wall. Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart your router by unplugging it, waiting for 30 seconds, and then plugging it back in.

Check Wi-Fi Signal:

  • Ensure your printer is within range of your Wi-Fi network and that there are no obstacles causing interference.

Verify Network Connectivity:

  • Ensure other devices (e.g., computers, smartphones) are connected to the Wi-Fi network and have internet access.

2. Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi

Using the Printer Control Panel:

Access Wireless Settings:

  • On the printer's control panel, go to the Setup menu. This might be represented by a gear icon or something similar.

Select Wireless Setup Wizard:

  • Choose Network Setup or Wireless Settings, then select Wireless Setup Wizard.

Choose Your Network:

  • The printer will search for available networks. Select your Wi-Fi network (SSID) from the list.

Enter Wi-Fi Password:

  • Enter your Wi-Fi password when prompted. Make sure you enter it correctly, including any uppercase letters, numbers, and special characters.

Complete Setup:

  • Follow the prompts to complete the setup and ensure the printer connects to the network.

3. Check Printer’s Network Configuration

Print Network Configuration Page:

Print Configuration Page:

  • On the printer’s control panel, find the option to print a Network Configuration page. This page will provide details about your printer’s network settings and its connection status.

Verify Settings:

  • Check if the printer is connected to the correct network and if it has obtained an IP address.

4. Update Firmware

Using HP Smart App or HP Support Website:

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP Support website.

Download and Install Updates:

  • If there’s an update available, follow the instructions to download and install it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
